What is the cause of eating disorders, and which treatment methods are effective?

Eating Disorders

Bulimia Nervosa

Frequent recurrent episodes of binge eating, with inappropriate compensatory behaviour in order to prevent weight gain, such as self-induced vomiting, use of laxatives or other medication, fasting or excessive exercise.

Anorexia Nervosa

Refusal to maintain a minimally normal body weight, intense fear of gaining weight, disturbed experience of body weight and shape.

Binge Eating

Recurrent episodes of binge eating without the regular compensatory behaviour characteristic of Bulimia Nervosa.

Obesity (without binge eating)

Eats more than the physical need of nourishment without the regular compensatory behaviour characteristic of Bulimia Nervosa.
